Harare football giants, Caps United on Monday unveiled Lloyd Chitembwe as their new head coach following the sacking of Darlington Dodo who had a poor run in the Chibuku Super Cup in a move that ends speculation surrounding Chitembwe’s return to the club that he served both as a player and a coach.

Chitembwe returns home to the “Green Machine” on a three year contract after he had left the club for rivals, Harare City at the end of the 2019 season in a move that many Caps United faithful felt prejudiced the club of the chance to clinch the premiership title, losing out to Zvishavane based F.C Platinum on the last day of the season.

The gaffer returns to the green machine family backed by all his trusted backroom lieutenants namely, Nelson Matongorere, Fungai “Tostao” Kwashi, Tonderai Marume and fitness trainer Thulani Muzambwa.

Caps United President Mr Farai Jere expressed his gratitude and confidence in Chitembwe’s return to “Makepe-kepe”.

“Today is a special day for the Caps United family as we are having back our prodigal son. It is a special day because Lloyd has proved to be one of the greatest coaches, his track record is there for us to see, from the time he was a player up to the time he became a coach,” said Jere.

The Caps United boss added that the long term contract handed to the seasoned gaffer is meant to give him room to build a strong team that can fight for honours.

“He is coming on a 3 year contract because we want to have a plan, we want him to build a team of players with character,” added Jere.

As rumour of Chitembwe’s return to Caps United intensified last week, the gaffer was spotted at Nyamhunga Stadium in Kariba on Saturday as the Harare Giants clashed with ZPC Kariba in an encounter that ended goalless.

Caps United failed to progress to the knock-out stage of the Chibuku Super Cup after they had a poor run in the competition where they managed to win only two matches.
