FORMER Highlanders and Zimbabwe Warriors veteran goalkeeper, Tapuwa Kapini, on Monday signed a one year deal with the option of extending a further year with Sekhukhune United, a Johannesburg based South African National First Division club.

Kapini was unexpectedly dumped by Highlands Park mid September following acquistion of the team’s franchise by TS Galaxy owner, Tim Sukazi.

The hard working goalkeeper confirmed the move on his twitter handle yesterday, appreciating all those who wished him well and gave him the much needed support after his dismissal at Highlands Park. He highlighted on the post that he would be wearing his famous number 16 shirt.

“Thank you for the prayers and words of encouragement. Proud to call SEKHUKHUNE UNITED F.C my new HOME! #CAMPOS 16,” he posted.

Campos confirmed to this publication that Mr Simon Malatji, a South African security and construction business mogul owns the johannesburg based outfit but he was not at liberty to shed more light, save for Malatji’s involvement soccer administration.

“At the moment we are based in Jozi. The owner of the team is Mr Simon Malatji,” said Campos.
Like any other player, Kapini, together with his teammates at Sekhukhune, are aiming to capitalise on home advantage to be able to gain promotion into the top flight league.

“Our target is to win at home and what everyone wants to achieve is to go to the PSL. If we play as a team, we can achieve because we have the quality and dedicated young players and we do have an experienced coach as well,” added Kapini.

Kapini admitted that the media has the power to make or break a player so he is appealing to the media practitioners to play a positive role in uplifting players.

“To the media guys, whenever we are playing we look forward to the media to put on top whoever is doing good.

“There are some players who are always playing well but some of them are never recognised. At one point, I was playing very well and being the most outstanding Zimbabwean goalkeeper but you media guys never bothered to call me to ask how is it going,” he added.

Kapini joins his fellow country man, Gabriel Nyoni in the national frst division who joined Cape Town based outfit, Cape Umoya after his contract wa prematurely and mutually terminated at his former PSL club Maritzburg United.
