Zimbabwe resumes domestic and international flights

Harare – Both domestic and international flights are set to resume tomorrow and beginning of next month respectively following the adoption of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) put in place for the reopening of international and domestic airports by the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ).

Cabinet last night gave the green light for the reopening of the country’s skies having suspended all flight activity and shutting down all its borders in March as a measure to curb the spread of the corona virus.

Speaking during a post cabinet briefing in Harare last night, information minister, Monica Mutsvangwa said, “Cabinet approved the opening up of the country’s skies to both domestic and international flights effective 10th September and 1st October, 2020, respectively.”

“Standard Operating Procedures have been put in place for the reopening of international and some domestic airports. The National Guidelines for Aviation Safety and Security have been developed by the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe to ensure the safety of both the travellers and airport staff,” she added.

In addition to adherence to the safety procedures, the minister also said that temperature testing, social distancing, sanitization and mandatory wearing of masks would be enforced.

In line with the World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines, all travellers will also be required to have a PCR Covid-19 clearance certificate issued by a recognised facility within 48 hours from the date of departure.
