Harare- The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) today officially launched its in-house covid-19 vaccination awareness campaign in the capital to encourage its staff to get the jab against the corona virus.
The event was spearheaded by the organisation’s National Works Council while the authority’s board Vice Chairperson, Mrs Josephine Matambo and Acting Commissioner General, Mr Rameck Masaire officiated at the event.
Mrs Matambo said today’s initiative was a step in the right direction towards ensuring a safe working environment for ZIMRA staff.
“I want to applaud you for this meeting to formally launch the vaccination for ZIMRA. I would have taken my vaccination weeks back , but when I heard that there was going to be this forum I decided to defer so that I could join you and have it together with you, so today I am going to get my jab,” she said.
Mrs Matambo added that of late, there has been a lot of negative comments particularly on social media regarding covid-19 vaccines and this has caused fear among the authority’s staff.
She however encouraged the work force to go for the vaccine in order to stay safe from the virus.
“What I am appealing to you today is that let us go out there and preach the gospel that this vaccine is good for us and I am to start by having my first dose today,” she added.
Acting Commissioner General, Mr Rameck Masaire also weighed in emphasising the importance of taking the jab among the Revenue officers.
“…it is important that in the process of this critical engagement, we found it necessary and wise to propose and launch the ZIMRA Covid-19 vaccination awareness campaign.”
“This is done to encourage our colleagues within ZIMRA to remove the fear within that the vaccine is infact meant to protect us,” he said.
At organisational level, at the end of the first quarter 2021, ZIMRA had recorded 211 confirmed cases, 3 deaths, 204 recoveries and 4 active cases.
