Mauritius declares State of Environmental Emergency

Mauritius has since declared a state of environmental emergency following a vessel offshore leaking oil into the lndian ocean.

The ship ran aground off Mauritius on July 25and its crew evacuated, but has since begun leaking tons of fuel into the surrounding waters and this has serious consequences on the environment.

Mauritian Prime Minister, Pravind Jugnauth declared the State of environmental emergency late yesterday (Friday). In a statement while also appealing for help from France, Jugnauth conceded that they do not have “the skills and expertise to refloat strandes ships.”-BBC
