IT is now unlawful for companies to operate a power generator without a licence lest they pay a ZWL$100 000 fine.
This emerged following a leaked paper served to a company from the Environmental Management Authority (EMA) which is circulating on social media.
According to EMA, the company contravened Section 64 of EMA Act (Cap 20-27). This has been met with shock with queries about the rationale behind fining generator use in a country embattled with electricity shortages where citizens endure 19 hours without power.
“Nyika haina magetsi but kanzuru irikufamba ichitora ma generator mobhadhariswa $100 yuwesi fine 💀💀💀(This country does not have electricity but the Council is confiscating generators and people are being made to pay USD100 fine equalivalent to the ZWL$100 000),” said a concerned Facebook user.
