Speedy Zimbabwe international forward, Gabriel Nyoni has penned a new deal with South African second tier club, Cape Umoya United football club following the unconventional route that he took of marketing his services on social media after he had been released by top flight club, Maritzburg United during the lockdown period.

Nyoni, who turns 28 tomorrow had posted a video of match highlights on Twitter showing his capabilities on the field of play with a caption, “Some few highlights of my career so far, kindly like and re-tweet, maybe I can get a job,” he tweeted.

The video clip attracted more than twenty one thousand views, more than a thousand re-tweets and a thousand-plus likes.

The former Highlanders and Caps United forward said that for one to be recognised, they have to think outside the box in whatever profession that they are pursuing.

“I came with the idea because I am a person who believes that you create your own reality, you create your own story, so I had to take myself out there.

“You might be a good soccer player, singer, cook or any other career, but if you do not take yourself out there, no one will know what you can offer to the world, so I had to show the world what I can offer,” he said.

Nyoni revealed to this publication that he is a holder of a Marketing degree which he acquired in 2016 whilst plying his trade at Zimbabwean top flight league side Highlanders, so besides being his manager’s duty to market his talent, he decided to make use of his qualifications to market himself as a brand in football as well as prepare for life after his football career.

“A manager and player is a relationship hence we both try and make sure we build the brand and in this case the Gabriel Nyoni brand.

“In this case I have a Marketing degree and it even adds to the relationship that we have with my manager. Remember I am not only marketing myself for football but for my time after football as well,” added Nyoni.

The talented left footer is targeting to score as many goals as possible for his new club so that he can find his way back into the top flight league. He emphasised that netting in as many goals could be the trick behind making a quick return to the top flight league.
