Local Afro music song bird drops hit single, video

Harare based Afro music artiste, Tanakay

HARARE based 26 year old Afro music sensation Tanaka Changwereza , popularly known by her stage moniker, Tanakay on Monday released her tenth hit single, Amai Vangu which also comes with a video directed by Darling Media, while the track was produced by Alicious.

Amai vangu is a soul touching song that revolves around the story of a middle aged girl showing her appreciation to her mother who single handedly raised her together with her siblings regardless of life’s many trials and tribulations.

After making it in life she then shows her appreciation to the mother by purchasing a gift for her in the form of a car.

The song also depicts the overall importance that mother figures have in a family set-up and how much they are pillars of strength in upholding the family institution’s moral fabric.

Tanakay who burst onto the music scene in 2019 had nine singles to her name , some of which include; Ndiri ndega ndega, Paruware and Samson. Ndiri ndega ndega, Paruware and Pwere are the other songs that already had videos to their names.

The song-bird who hails from Harare’s Dzivarasekwa extension suburb says she draws her inspiration mostly from female artistes who ironically have an afro feel in their music.

“I was inspired to venture into music by South African Afro-Soul artiste, Zahara and I also love women with powerful voices such as Selmor Mutukudzi and South Africa’s Makhadzi,” she said.

Tanakay has in the past worked on various projects with artistes such as Maskiri, Humba and Larry Wood.

The Afro music song bird however bemoaned financial resource constraints as a major hindrance for her and many other up and coming artistes in the music industry.

“Financially, it is really hard to be in this industry as you need to self fund most of your projects and as such it becomes difficult to be full time in the music business.

“I am also into various entrepreneurial projects since I am not doing music on a full time basis, so that I can be able to cater for my upkeep,” she added.

Lack of access to radio and television air play to showcase talent is also a major cause for concern for Tanakay and other budding musicians across the length and breadth of the country.

As a parting shot, Tanakay had this to say to aspiring artistes in the musical field and her loyal fans, “Keep pushing and never give up,if you know you love to sing go for it and don’t let anyone stop you,the sky is the limit.

“And to my fans I just want to thank you all for the support, keep supporting me, I am also working on an album which I expect to be out in January next year ..keep supporting !!!”
